Dental plaque is a fact of life – everyone can understand. This is the sticky film that forms when bacteria in the mouth accumulate on the teeth. When the plaque is scattered for too long, the kitchen knife has to pay a price.
It swallowed them and made them weak. This leads to rot and gum disease. You can’t get rid of bacteria from your mouth (it’s actually good for you), but you can use these five tips to clamp plaque.
1. Use the correct method of brushing at least twice a day
You know you should do this, but how often?
“Ideally, we want everyone to brush their teeth after each meal to remove plaque as quickly as possible,” said Nadia Armentrout of DDS. She said that brushing your teeth before going to bed is particularly important because, without it, tartar will lie on your teeth all night.
Use a soft toothbrush. The bristles may roughen your gums. Make sure to replace the toothbrush every 3-4 months. If it is too old, it will not work properly so make sure you choose the right brush to clean your teeth.
2. Clean between your teeth properly
Your teeth are not the only place where plaque gathers. It is also hidden in the gaps between the teeth. Using dental floss or other tools is the key to overcome this.
You should floss at least once a day. If you do not wish to wrap dental floss, then there are other equally effective options, including:
- Pre-threaded dental floss
- A small, straight toothbrush fits your teeth
- Dental flosser
- Wood stain remover
3. Do not rinse your mouth with mouthwash
Not the only teeth, some alcoholic mouthwashes can make your mouth dry. This is not good for preventing dental plaque. Saliva helps maintain oral health. Dry mouth can lead to the formation of a type of plaque called sticky spot, which is more difficult to clean.
Ask your dentist about the type of mouthwash that will suit your teeth needs.
4. Skip sugar and starch.
When you finish eating, bacteria will rush to the residual sugar in your mouth and feed on it. The higher the sugar content of food, the more bacteria to deal with when brushing your teeth.
The most serious offenders include:
- Starchy foods, such as potato chips and bread
- Sticky candy sticking to teeth
- Carbonated soda
5. Go to the dentist often.
- Most measures to prevent dental plaque occur in your daily work. However, it is also important to see the dentist twice a year.
- “No matter how good the work you do at home, there are areas that are difficult to reach and clean properly, such as under the gums or behind the second molar,” Armentrout said.
- In addition to cleaning up spots you might have missed, your dentist can also adjust your dental skills and spot any problems as early as possible, lest they become bigger problems.
- Paying close attention to oral health can ensure that your smile stays bright for a long time.
